What I Read in January

What I Read in January

You'd think maybe with all that was going on in this country, I would have escaped to reading all fiction books.  That would be a reasonable response I think.  But somehow I was on a non-fiction kick, and I still am.  I do have a cozy mystery started, but I've been more interested in my non-fiction than fiction for whatever reason.  Maybe I just need to feel more informed about......EVERYTHING!

The way I've been choosing non-fiction is pretty simple.  I'm doing it blindly, at least for books that I own.  I'm reaching up to the shelf, and which ever book is next on the shelf, I'm reading it.  If I decide I'm just not interested in reading that book, it's going straight into the bag that will go to the used bookstore next time we are in the big city.

And here we go:

The Comfort of Crows:  A Backyard Year (Margaret Renkl) Libby

Story of the Peace Garden State (Erling Nicolai Rolfsrud) Owned.  I picked this up from a used bookstore when we were visiting North Dakota a few years ago.

Irish in Minnesota (Ann Regan) Owned. I think we bought this at a museum in Minnesota.

The Book Swap (Tessa Bickers) Libby. Fiction.  Pretty good.

A Short History of Newfoundland and Labrador (Newfoundland Historical Society) Owned.  Husband gifted it to me off my wishlist probably a decade ago. Meh.  While I realize a lot of this Canadian province's history revolves around fish, it just felt like that's mostly all I was reading about.

The Friday Afternoon Club:  A Family Memoir (Griffin Dunne) Libby. I love memoirs.

Going Up the Country:  When the Hippies, Dreamers, Freaks, and Radicals Moved to Vermont (Yvonne Daley) Owned.  Fascinating look at the "back to the land" movement of the 60's and 70's.  Picked this up when we visited Vermont.

When Women Ran Fifth Avenue:  Glamour and Power at the Dawn of American Fashion (Julie Satow) Libby.  Interesting look at when women began running New York's department stores in the early 1900's.

Total of 4 Kindle books from the library, and 4 owned books.  It's very rare that I reread books, and 3 or the 4 are in the bag to head out of my house.
