February Stuff Buying

I'm glad February is over.  It's just a cold, dark month in general, and this year with all the crap going on in the US, it's even worse.  

But on to any stuff-buying we did in February!  This doesn't include groceries, household items that need regular replacing, the occasional eating out we do, or regular bills.  I've decided to start including vending machines as of this month.  

*I sent in 4 rolls of 35 mm film I found when I brought my mom's photos over to my house to organize.  They went to a company in CA, and it cost $58.95 to get them developed, sent to me digitally, and the negatives sent by mail to me.  It was fun looking through family photos that were taken around 20 years ago.  

*I bought a diamond painting kit at Michaels for $32.76.  I'm still enjoying this craft, and it's a mindless distraction from the world.

*We bought a Costco membership.  We live over 2 hours from the closest store, but we travel fairly frequently to the big city.  Cost: $130, but we will be getting a $40 gift certificate with that, and I earned 35,000 points on Fetch, which will equal about a $30 gift certificate to the grocery store I use.  

*I spent $2.15 at a vending machine at the hospital while my husband had surgery.

*A whopping .34 was spent at Bissell.com replacing my recalled steam cleaner with a new one that was safe after the credit the company sent me. 

*$5.75 at a convenience store.  I'm sure it was some junk to eat.

*Husband spent $5.55 total on vending machines at work.  

*Ebay:  $25.18 on 25 American Chestnuts for planting.  Hoping to grow some trees.


I spent $0 at Amazon.  I'm proud of that.  We did shop at Walmart once, a pickup order.  Hoping to not have any WM expenses in March.

Changing landscape--literally

I don't post on The Non-Consumer Advocate very often, but I do read it all the time.  I did post today though, on "Five Frugal Things."   I am the keeper of the gift bags in my family.  This year I made sure to tell both my sisters and mom to not buy any gift bags.  Instead my bin made the rounds. A couple of them came loose at the seams so I'm going to glue those back.  I also used maps to wrap my nephew's gifts.  I've been using them since he was little, and since he's a senior in high school, it seemed fitting to use the last of them.   We scaled down Christmas due to a very expensive year and also because none of us really need/want much.  This year we had big medical bills, a new roof, new gutters, tree work, and a new car.  Dh and I only exchanged stockings, which consisted of candy and 3 books each.  I bought my books off Thriftbooks, while dh chose to patronize an independent bookstore.  One frugal, one not, but both wins t...

January Stuff Buying

This year I'm hoping to keep spending on "stuff" low, both because I want to spend less money and because I want to put less stuff out into the world that will eventually be trash.  And so here we go with January. $9.54--I made one trip to a thrift store.  I dropped off a carload full of donations, and then I went inside and bought 4 small baskets.  Two my sister asked me to get, and then I got two small ones for use at my home. $19.00--I bought two diamond art paintings.  I need a distraction right now, and this fits the bill.  Zero regrets. $21.84--At the beginning of January, I spent $21.84 at Amazon.  That will hopefully be my very last purchases at Amazon, as we broke up.  This was 2 kitchen storage containers (for flour and sugar) and a pepper grinder. $20.88--My husband bought a charging cord from an online electronics store. $146.05--Two sets of scrubs for my husband.  His department will be requiring a certain color of scrub by next year....
